The Mohegan Tribe of Uncasville plans to open 10 Jersey Mike’s Subs sandwich shops in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, as the resort casino owners continue their diversification play.
Jersey Mike’s Subs, based out of New Jersey, awarded the tribe franchise territory covering Rhode Island and the southern section of Worcester County in Massachusetts. The first two sub shops will open in the next nine months.
The tribe, which operates three resort casinos including Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, established a separate Mohegan Holding Company to diversify into non-gaming areas like restaurants, wood pellets, manufacturing, and office solutions.
In November, the tribe opened a Smashburger location in Waterford, the first of 16 planned in southern New England. The tribe also plans to open 15 Arooga’s Grille House & Sports Bar in New England over the next four years.
