The tribal operator of Mohegan Sun has promoted a local casino executive to serve as its chief operating officer.
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) on Thursday named Ray Pineault COO after he spent the last seven months as regional president of Mohegan Sun, based in the Uncasville section of Montville, and MGE’s subsidiary venues in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Marksville, La. The appointment is now pending regulatory approval, casino officials say.

Pineault is replacing former COO Michael Silberling, who vacated the position earlier this month. A Mohegan spokesperson said MGE is not currently searching for Pineault’s replacement as regional president.
As COO, Pineault will oversee MGE’s regional presidents to ensure that its nine properties in the U.S., Canada and South Korea “meet or exceed employee engagement, guest service, cultural, strategic and fiscal plans, while maintaining the highest standards of regulatory compliance.”
Pineault has spent nearly 20 years working for the Mohegan tribal nation.
From 2015 to 2019, he served as president and general manager of Mohegan Sun, the organization’s flagship property. He also was a senior staff attorney for MGE in the early 2000s, managing legal issues and financial reporting for both the local casino and the organization.
“From the beginning, it has been our mission to build the best executive team in the industry, and I believe we are on our way to achieving that status with a veteran like Ray at the helm,” Mohegan Sun CEO Mario Kontomerkos said in a statement.
