Mohegan Sun followed up a December uptick in slot machine revenue by tacking on another gain in January.
The casino’s $44 million in slots revenue last month was up 1.9 percent, or approximately $800,000, from its Jan. 2014 number. It followed a gain of 6.8 percent in December — Mohegan’s sole increase of the calendar year.
The January increase came despite a $5.3 million decrease, or 1 percent, in the amount bettors wagered during the month, to $537.3 million.
Meanwhile, Foxwoods posted January slots revenue of $34.1 million, down 8.1 percent, or $3 million. Its “handle” fell $8.5 million, to $424.8 million.
The two eastern Connecticut casinos will pay state taxes on the winnings of $11 million and $8.9 million, respectively. Collectively, that $19.9 million contribution is down from $20.1 million a year ago.
