Mohegan nearly double 1Q casino net

The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which operates two casinos in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, reported on Thursday fiscal first-quarter net income of $24 million, an 86 percent gain from a year ago.

MTGA increased net income from $12.9 million in the first quarter 2010 based on increased gaming and non-gaming revenues at its Mohegan Sun resort casino in Uncasville and the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs casino in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

The authority’s revenue for the first quarter was $351.9 million, up 4.8 percent from the first quarter 2010.

MTGA has public debt but is not pubicly traded, so it doesn’t report earnings per share.

At Mohegan Sun, gaming revenues rose to $243.5 million, a 1.5 percent increase; and non-gaming revenues including restaurants, retail shops and a hotel rose to $52.1 million, a 13.2 percent increase.

At Pocono Downs, gaming revenues rose to $74 million, a 8.9 percent increase, and non-gaming revenues rose to $8 million, a 7.8 percent increase.
