Mohegan Sun resort casino in Uncasville took in $57 million in December slot revenue, a rare year-over-year increase for the property with steadily dropping gaming revenues over the past five years.
Mohegan and rival Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket have seen their revenues from slot machines decline as more competition opened up in New York, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania.
But December was a good month for Mohegan’s slot revenues. The casino’s $57 million take is a 6.6 percent increase over the December 2010 take of $53.4 million. The only other months in 2011 where Mohegan increased its slot revenues over 2010 where February and September.
Through its agreement with the state, Mohegan must contribute 25 percent of its slot revenue to the state. For December, the casino contributed $14.6 million.
Foxwoods and Mohegan are required to report their monthly slot revenue to the state on the 15th of the following month. Since the 15th falls on a Sunday this month, Mohegan reported its slot revenue on Friday while Foxwoods is waiting until Monday to release its figures.
