Mohegan bidding to develop casino resort in Japan

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment says it will bid on a license to develop a resort casino in Japan, as the Mohegan Sun operator seeks to deepen its presence in Asia.

MGE will jointly bid on the license with Oshidori International Development Godogaisha, a unit of Hong Kong-based publicly traded Oshidori International Holdings, for a license to develop and operate an integrated resort in Sasebo City, located on the Nagasaki Prefecture.

“We are honored to work with Oshidori International and leverage their team’s unparalleled experience on this IR license bid in one of the fastest growing markets in the world,” MGE CEO Mario Kontomerkos said in a statement.

Kontmerkos said there’s a “significant cross marketing opportunity” between the potential Japanese casino and MGE’s ongoing Project Inspire resort casino in Korea, which is one of a number of ongoing international projects the company has in the works.
