Mohegan-backed restaurant coming to Enfield

A company owned by the Mohegan Tribe will open a Smashburger franchise, its fifth, in Enfield, later this year.

The Uncasville-based Mohegan Holding Co. LLC, which is part of the tribe’s non-gaming business segment will open the restaurant at 54 Hazard Ave. in the Stop & Shop plaza. The holding company also owns franchises in Waterford, Manchester and Southington, as well as in Warwick, R.I. Nearly 20 more franchise locations are planned across New England, the company said.

As many as 45 positions will be filled at the new restaurant. A job fair is planned for later this fall.

Mohegan Holding Co. LLC, which the casino operator started to diversify its business amid heightened gaming industry competition, includes restaurants like Smashburger, sustainable energy businesses and other projects.
