Millstone nuclear operated safely in 2010

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said the two nuclear reactors at Millstone Power Station in Waterford operated safely in 2010.

The NRC Commission will release its full annual safety performance assessment of the nuclear Millstone Power Station during a public hearing May 25 in Waterford, but the agency said the overall assessment is the plant operated safely last year.

The 2 p.m. hearing at 15 Rope Ferry Road in Waterford will discuss the NRC assessment with the public before a 6:30 p.m. with the Connecticut Nuclear Energy Advisory Council.

“Our annual assessment reviews allow us to step back and gauge whether the nuclear power plants we regulate are on the right track in terms of performance and adhering to the highest levels of safety,” NRC Region I Administrator Bill Dean said in a  press release. “Once we’ve completed these evaluations, we reach out to the public to share that information and to receive their feedback at a location near each plant. We welcome and value these exchanges.”
