Meriden’s MidState Medical Center has pitched a plan to close its six-bed inpatient behavioral health unit and shift those services to The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.
The plan, which was recently filed with the Office of Healthcare Access for approval, also calls for the Hospital of Central Connecticut (THOCC) to add 10 beds to its current 22 bed behavioral health unit.
Both hospitals are affiliated with Hartford Healthcare, which is pushing the exchange of services in order to centralize behavorial health services within its network. Â
THOCC would accommodate the extra beds by renovating existing space on its campus.
