Middletown-based IT and cybersecurity services provider Charles IT has acquired a Virginia-based company, MERIT 2.0.
MERIT 2.0 has offices in Providence, Rhode Island, and in Chesapeake, Virginia, and Charles IT says the deal will expand its reach in the Northeast market and take it into the mid-Atlantic.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This marks the second acquisition for Charles IT as the company expands its footprint to meet growing demand for compliance-focused IT services in regulated industries.
In 2022, it acquired NST Systems based in Stamford, and it has retained a Stamford office to service the metro New York region.
The acquisition of MERIT closed on November 17, 2025, and all 24 MERIT employees have joined Charles IT. Charles’ workforce totals 125.
“By welcoming MERIT’s team, we’re expanding our ability to serve organizations facing increasingly complex cybersecurity and regulatory challenges,” said Foster Charles, founder and CEO of Charles IT. “This is an important step in our growth strategy as we continue to invest in capabilities that help our clients reduce risk and achieve their business goals.”
The company last year embarked on the renovation of a prominent downtown building at the corner of Main and Union streets in Middletown, to serve as its new headquarters.
Charles IT says it has been consistently experiencing 20% to 30% annual growth.
