Hartford-based First & Last Tavern is being evicted from its Main Street space in Middletown for more than $140,000 in overdue rent, according to city officials.
Mayor Daniel Drew said the city filed a lawsuit in January seeking to evict the Italian restaurant, which shares a building with the Middletown Police Department at 222 Main St., for overdue rent dating back to 2016.
The city is now evicting First & Last by April 1, Drew said Monday afternoon.
“The city has received many expressions of interest by other restaurant groups and will pursue the one most beneficial to the taxpayers of Middletown,” the mayor said.
First & Last will have remaining locations in Hartford at 939 Maple Ave., Glastonbury, Plainville and Avon.
The restaurant chain debuted in Middletown shortly after the city’s police station was built in 1999.
