Middletown solar firm lands $165M financing deal

Middletown solar integrator Greenskies Renewable Energy said it has closed on a $165 million financing that will back 127 projects in 12 states.

Greenskies did not disclose all 12 states, but said they stretch from Maine to California. That’s the same number of states included in the company’s 180-store deal with Target announced earlier this year.

Greenskies said the solar projects for corporate and municipal customers will generate enough electricity to power 13,000 average New England homes for a year.

The company said the deal represents its sixth financing round with First Niagara Financial Group since 2012.

It said an unnamed tax equity provider is also a party to the package. In return for their investment in renewable energy projects, tax equity providers typically receive a return based on government incentives, such as tax credits.
