A former Middletown OB-GYN will launch a new women’s practice in West Hartford Center next month.
Women’s Holistic Health LLC, opening March 20, will be led by Dr. Jessica Wei, who is leaving a 13-year position in private practice at Middlesex Ob/Gyn Associates to pursue “functional medicine.”
Functional medicine is a subset of “integrative medicine,” which includes the use of various alternative treatments such as acupuncture and Reiki.
Wei said her practice will treat conditions such as fatigue, difficulty maintaining a healthy weight, depression, anxiety and various hormonal conditions, among others.
“Although conventional approaches to medical care provide some with relief from their chronic symptoms, many women do not get the support or answers they need to fundamentally shift their health and achieve true wellness,” Wei said in the release.
Both Hartford HealthCare and St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center offer integrative health services.
The Institute for Functional Medicine, which certified Wei, lists more than 20 practitioners of functional medicine within a 50-mile radius of Hartford on its website.
Women’s Holistic Health does not participate as an in-network provider with insurance plans, which Wei said allows for longer patient appointments, but she said some patients may be able to seek reimbursement from their carriers for consultative services and lab testing.
