Middlesex Hospital is proposing to acquire for $1.9 million a nearby ambulatory surgery center that deals exclusively with gastroenterology and colonoscopy procedures.
The Middletown-based hospital, with 275 beds, has submitted a proposal with the Office of Health Care Access to acquire Shoreline Colonoscopy Suites of Old Saybrook.
The shoreline facility currently operates as a free-standing single specialty colonoscopy center providing gastroenterology and colorectal procedure services.
The facility is co-owned by doctors Maurizio Nichele and Jay Zimmerman.
Both doctors would continue to provide services to patients after the deal is completed, regulatory filings said.
