Middlesex Community College President Anna Wasescha is leaving the Middletown college to become president/CEO of the Fergus Falls, Minn. West Central Initiative, a regional community foundation.
Wasescha will begin her new job on May 8, but return to Middlesex to preside over the college’s 50th anniversary commencement on May 25. Dean of Academic Affairs Steven Minkler will oversee the day-to-day administration during the month of May.
No immediate search for a replacement is planned, according to Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State College and Universities. He has been authorized to implement a consolidation plan for the Connecticut State College and Universities system that is estimated to save the system at least $41 million a year.
Ojakian praised the outgoing community college president’s “vision, commitment and passion,” saying she strengthened academic programs and developed community partnerships on behalf of the students.
Wasescha was previously the provost at Minnesota State Community and Technical College, also located in Fergus Falls.
