Microtel hotel approved for Windsor’s Day Hill Road corridor

Plans for a Microtel Inn & Suites on the Day Hill Road corridor in Windsor were submitted and recently approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Alford Associates Inc. and Wilson M. Alford Jr. submitted plans in early October for a four-story Microtel with 91 guest rooms and 96 parking spaces.

The 43,500-square-foot hotel would sit on 2.6 acres at 675 Day Hill Road along the corridor close to Interstate 91.

According to the application, the project would sit on portions of two existing parcels at 777 Day Hill Road and 903 Day Hill Road, owned by affiliations of real estate developer Mark Greenberg based out of Watertown and Litchfield.

According to his website, parcels at 777, 875 and 903 Day Hill Road are “part of our larger, most vibrant development project at Day Hill Road,” which consists of about 43 acres of land where several recreational and hospitality projects are proposed or underway, including the approved Microtel.

A Fastpitch Nation facility at 1001 Day Hill Road, is located nearby the hotel site, and plans for outdoor soccer fields with lights, including an indoor soccer facility to be called the Day Hill Dome, are in the works.

The application said the hotel will be convenient for families, teams and patrons of the surrounding recreational facilities.

Greenberg also owns a building at 1001 Day Hill Road, where plans are underway for a 16,500-square-foot brewpub with pizzeria.

Sports World, New World athletics and a little league complex are among the recreational facilities also located in nearby Windsor Locks and South Windsor.

The application also shows plans for a Holiday Inn Express hotel to be built close to the Microtel site.

Connecticut has two Microtel by Wyndham Inn & Suites locations in Uncasville and also in the Bethel/Danbury area.
