MGM Springfield’s Dec. gaming revenues rise 1.5%

After monthly declines, MGM Springfield reported its first month-over-month gaming revenue increase in December, the casino’s regulator said.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Tuesday said the Springfield casino last month netted $21.5 million from slots and table games, up 1.5 percent compared to the $21.2 million recorded in November.

MGM earned the $335,311 uptick through slots, which recorded $14.2 million in revenue vs. $13.3 million in the month prior. Revenues from table games in December fell 6.6 percent to $7.3 million.

The $960 million gaming and entertainment complex, which debuted Aug. 24, posted a two-month decline in gaming revenues since its first full month in September, when it recorded $26.9 million. MGM’s total gaming revenues were $22.2 million in October and $21.2 million in November.

MGM, taxed at 25 percent, contributed $5.3 million in taxes to the state of Massachusetts in December.

In total, the casino has contributed $23 million to Massachusetts during its first four full months in operation.
