After over a year of preparations and renovations, a new Mexican restaurant is launching next week in the city’s Westville neighborhood.
Camacho Garage, which features Mexican street food from Executive Chef Arturo Franco-Camacho, opens Monday, Sept. 28.
Franco-Camacho said he is “beyond excited,” about the launch of the new restaurant, as he will be “sharing the flavors and experiences” he grew up with in Mexico while cooking with his mother and grandmother and spending time with his father at a garage he owned.
The new restaurant, at 36 Fountain St., was formerly the home of a bank.
Instead of getting cash and loans, customers can enjoy Mexican-style beverages and an array of south of the border-inspired food. The restaurant has an extensive taco menu, with fillings such as adobo marinated chicken and slow roasted lamb, grains, beans, greens and avocados. Mexican Hot Dogs and Ensalada de Nopales are among the offerings. For dessert, guests can enjoy Mexican treats like churros and flan.

“In addition to celebrating both traditional and inspired recipes from my childhood, I’m very focused on providing guests with a healthy, fresh and delicious experience,” Franco-Camacho said.
He is a co-owner with Robert Bolduc and Marc Knight. The team is behind restaurants such as Geronimo Tequila Bar and Southwest Grill, Shell & Bones Oyster Bar and Grill and Nantucket’s Bar Yoshi.
The new restaurant has a vintage garage theme, including oversized garage doors that open and old-style signs and artwork. There are indoor and outdoor dining areas, with fire pits for outdoor diners to enjoy. The building underwent a complete renovation with help from designer Christian P. Arkay-Leliever.
Camacho Garage will be open seven days a week for dinner, expanding to offer lunch, weekend brunch, late night, happy hour and takeout options in the coming weeks, as well as on- and off-site private event options.
