Pratt & Whitney announced it will sell its PurePower engines to Volaris to power the Mexican airline’s order of Airbus A320neo planes.
Pratt, which is owned by Hartford’s United Technologies Corp., said Volaris has also elected to purchase V2500 engines from Pratt’s multinational partnership, International Aero Engines (IAE). Those engines will power and provide spares Volaris’ order of 14 A320ceo planes.
Pratt said each deal includes a 12-year engine service agreement, including spare and option engines, for 66 and 29 engines, respectively.
IAE has done business with Volaris before. In 2006, the engine consortium inked a nearly $1 billion sale with the then-fledgling airline to supply V2500 engines for up to 56 A319 planes.
