MetLife unit buys Allstate division

Hyatt Legal Plans Inc., a MetLife Inc. subsidiary, said Thursday it acquired Allstate Corp.’s group legal plans business for an undisclosed amount, The Associated Press reports. Both MetLife and Allstate have operations in the Hartford area.

The Allstate group is known as “Signature LegalCare.”

Hyatt Legal Plans is the nation’s largest group legal plan provider.

Shares of MetLife rose 78 cents to $37.67 in morning trading, while Allstate’s stock slipped 26 cents to $27.69
