Meriden shopping center sold for $5.2M; redevelopment planned

DealPoint Merrill, a Los Angeles-based real estate investor and developer, has acquired Meriden’s Centennial Plaza shopping center.

The firm bought the 11-acre site at 560-566 West Main St. for $5.2 million, according to city property records.

DealPoint Merrill said it plans to convert former retail space, including a now-empty Stop & Shop supermarket, into climate-controlled storage units. Renovations are expected to begin next month.

According to the company’s site plan, two current tenants, a Family Dollar store and Apple Dental, will remain in place in the plaza’s main strip mall, and other space will be set aside for retail or a restaurant. The plaza also encompasses standalone businesses, including an AutoZone, a Wells Fargo branch and a CVS pharmacy.

Farmington-based Cornerstone Properties, the seller, said the deal for the shopping center was finalized on May 27.
