Meriden officer to join presidential board

A police captain from Meriden has been picked to serve on the national Medal of Valor Review Board, The Associated Press reports.

Patrick Gaynor’s pending nomination was announced by the White House on Wednesday.

Gaynor is a 15 year veteran of the department who also served for eight years in the U.S. Marine Corp, where he took part in Operation Desert Shield.

The 11-member board reviews the nominations and recommends individuals for the Medal of Valor, which is the highest national award for valor by a public safety officer.
