Radio Frequency Systems, a global wireless and broadcast infrastructure provider, said it will reconfigure its U.S. headquarters in Meriden to accommodate increased production and testing of its products.
The Meriden facility, located at 200 Pond View Drive, will be home to a team of broadcast experts and will be the heart of the company’s U.S. broadcast manufacturing operations, allowing it to better support broadcasters as they prepare for the U.S. broadcast television spectrum repacking program.
The program, run by the Federal Communications Commission, aims to reorganize or repack channels to reallocate some of the spectrum to wireless carriers.
An RFS spokesperson said the company has used lean processes to streamline other production areas to get the 35,000 square feet it needed for the broadcast manufacturing within its existing space. No additional build out was required.
The company did not disclose the project’s price tag.
RFS manufactures multi-channel broadband antennas and has been involved in a number of high-profile broadcast projects, including a terrestrial broadcasting solution for One World Trade Center in New York City.
Now, with 800 to 1,200 full power U.S. television stations potentially needing to change frequencies after the FCC’s reverse auction scheduled for March, RFS is heavily involved in supporting broadcast manufacturing domestically.
