Merger gives CT firm first Florida office

West Hartford accounting firm KPS & Co. LLC has opened its first Florida office, thanks to its merger with a West Palm Beach firm.

KPS finalized its merger with the Alan M. Gould & Co. accounting firm of West Palm Beach on Jan. 1, creating KPS’s third office after West Hartford and Wallingford.

“When the economy is stagnant like it is, there isn’t a lot of room for organic growth out there,” said KPS partner Joel M. Kosovsky.

Gould will serve as a partner in the merged firm’s West Palm Beach office, conducting operations under the KPS brand. KPS will retain all the staff members in the West Palm Beach office.

This marks the second KPS acquisition in six months. The firm acquired Barbara Irish CPA LLC of East Hartford in July. KPS now has 17 employees in its three offices.

For KPS, the merger gives the 31-year-old West Hartford company a client base and foothold in its second state, frequented by Northerners vacationing and retiring along the Interstate 95 corridor. Gould expects the deal to have minimal effect on his clients, except having more expertise and staff from the KPS office.

Kosovsky, who is a licensed CPA in Connecticut and Florida, expects an uptick in business as there already has been a lot of cross-selling and referrals with the Gould clients, who now have access to more accounting services.

“It is just a great way to do business,” Kosovsky said.
