The Mercy Community, a West Hartford continuing care retirement community, was awarded a $100,000 grant from CHE Trinity Health‘s “Call to Care” fund. The money will support the renovation of 10 units in The Frances Warde Towers Apartments, a 97-bed residential care facility that provides a setting for older adults to maintain their independence in a supportive, supervised living environment on the Mercy campus in West Hartford.

The YMCA of Greater Hartford received a $50,000 grant from The Hartford for its Adaptive Sports Program. The program offers people with disabilities, including those who have suffered traumatic injury or an illness compromising their physical ability, the opportunity to improve all aspects of their physical and mental condition. Funding from The Hartford will enable the YMCA of Greater Hartford to expand the program by purchasing adaptive fitness equipment, training Wilson-Gray wellness staff and developing cross-branch collaborations on special adaptive sports events.

Connecticut Food Bank received a $21,000 grant from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation as the nonprofit is observing Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign, founded by the leading domestic hunger-relief organization Feeding America, to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger in America. Connecticut Food Bank is using the award to provide more than 55 food-assistance agencies with equipment to safely pick-up and transport perishable food donations from local farms and retailers.

Stratford’s Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation has awarded a $15,000 grant to the Housatonic Community College Foundation for the college’s Advanced Manufacturing Program. The program is designed to provide students with the advanced manufacturing skills for those seeking employment in machine technology and CNC manufacturing environments.

The Lincoln Financial Foundation is supporting agencies that feed the hungry, address homelessness, and provide other needed services to adults and children at risk in the Hartford area through $150,000 in grants to 11 local nonprofit organizations. The nonprofits include: Mercy Housing and Shelter; Foodshare; HARC; Easter Seals Capital Region and Eastern Connecticut; Hartford Interval House; Chrysalis Center; Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation; Hands on Hartford; Loaves & Fishes Ministries; YWCA of the Hartford Region; and House of Bread.
