A law signed Monday by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy will provide an extended deadline to drug, medical device and equipment manufacturers for reporting payments or gifts to advanced practice registered nurses.
The bill amends a state law passed last year that would have required manufacturers to submit a report to the Department of Consumer Protection by July 1 detailing payments to APRNs.
The bill signed this week moves the deadline to 2017, and requires annual reports, rather than quarterly reports.
Manufacturers, who already report payments to doctors to the federal government, testified that they needed more time to compile the reports because they need to collect data on how many APRNs are operating independent of a physician, which was permitted under a state law passed last year.
The amended law only applies to independent APRNs and it also exempts gifts valued at less than $10, product samples, education material, and short-term medical device loans.
