Mercantile Development Inc. has purchased an 11.47-acre parcel on Waterview Drive in Shelton, land which the company plans to use for its future expansion plans.
Chris O’Hara, senior vice president of Coldwell Banker Commercial, based in Westport, completed the $2 million sale.
Mercantile Development, or MDI, moved its corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations to Shelton about 25 years ago with new construction at 10 Waterview Dr.
The acreage involved in the transaction is undeveloped land at 30 Waterview, according to O’Hara.
The company plans a second facility to accommodate its continued growth, according to an announcement.
The family-owned and operated company makes several wiper products for cleaning, such as towels for sanitizing and disinfecting, all-purpose wipes and dust cloths. Its customers are in various industries, including healthcare, foodservice establishments, aerospace and pharmaceutical companies. Its products have been in particularly high demand during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lucia Furman, MDI’s president, said in an announcement, “It’s hard to believe we’ve already outgrown our 2010 facility addition.”
The property deal, according to Furman, kicks off the company’s long-term expansion plans.
Pitney Bowes, a global shipping and mailing company based in Stamford with some operations in Shelton, sold a portion of its Waterview Drive property to MDI.
