Md. reopens utility hearing on Constellation-EDF deal

Maryland utility regulators are hearing more testimony in Baltimore on a proposed joint venture between Constellation Energy Group and France’s EdF.

Testimony today in the hearing before the Maryland Public Service Commission included discussion about how much the multibillion-dollar deal would bring the state in tax revenue.

EdF is looking to acquire nearly half of Constellation’s nuclear assets. While the two companies are not regulated by the PSC, Maryland utility regulators are reviewing how the deal could affect Constellation subsidiary Baltimore Gas and Electric, which is regulated by the state.

Constellation says the deal will enable it to build a third reactor at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant to meet future energy demands. (AP)
