New Jersey law firm McCarter & English LLP, with offices in Hartford and Stamford, has elected partner Stephen M. Vajtay, Jr. as managing partner, effective Dec. 1.
Vajtay will succeed Eric W. Wiechmann, who is resuming his civil litigation practice.Â
“Steve is one of the most honorable and selfless human beings I know, and his dedication to the firm is contagious,” said McCarter English Chairman Michael P. Kelly said in a statement Monday. “I am confident that he will continue the superb job Eric Wiechmann has done in managing the firm’s growth and excellence in every practice area.”
A partner for 19 years, Vajtay is a member of the Newark firm’s executive and compensation Committees. He began at McCarter 27 years ago right after graduating from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Vajtay is an adjunct law professor at Seton Hall University School of Law, a former chairman of the taxation section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and a frequent lecturer on taxation. He is listed in the 2007-2010 issues of The Best Lawyers in America.
He earned his LL.M from the New York University School of Law, his JD from Georgetown University Law Center and his bachelor’s from Rutgers University.Â
