Discount supermarket chain Aldi is opening a new location in Meriden, according to Mayor Kevin Scarpati.
In a social media posting, Scarpati said the company has selected a site along the Chamberlain Highway, on the city’s west side. He did not disclose a specific address.
The store is expected to open in the spring of 2022.
“More details and information will be available in the weeks and months ahead, but this is certainly great news for our city and residents,” Scarpati wrote.
Meriden recently lost a Stop & Shop supermarket at the Centennial Plaza shopping center. The store shut down late last year, citing poor sales, and the plaza was subsequently sold to a California real estate investor and developer, which plans to convert some of the retail space there into climate-controlled storage units.
