MassMutual CEO Roger W. Crandall was elected Monday chairman of the American Council of Life Insurers.
Crandall succeeds to a one-year term John D. Johns, CEO of Protective Life Corp., who is now designated the Washington D.C. trade-group’s immediate past chairman.
“Roger is a respected leader in the life insurance industry and will be an exceptional chairman of ACLI,” said ACLI President and CEO Dirk Kempthorne. “His command of the issues affecting the industry will be invaluable as he leads our board of directors in service to consumers and companies.”
ACLI, whose members serve the financial and retirement needs of more than 75 million Americans, also elected Deanna Mulligan, CEO of The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America, to succeed Crandall as chairman-elect.
Pete Schaefer, CEO of Hannover Life Reassurance Company of America, was named chairman-elect designate, meaning he will become ACLI chairman in October 2016.
