Mass.’ Westfield Bank covets 2nd CT branch

Springfield area community lender Westfield Bank is seeking to expand its Connecticut turf, eyeing Enfield for its second in-state branch, authorities say.

Parent Westfield Financial Inc says it has filed papers with Connecticut bank regulators, asking approval to open a full-service branch at 47 Palomba Drive in early October.

Westfield said residential-commercial lenders Thomas Glynn and Ted Horan would be based there. The bank said it is searching for a branch manager.

Westfield opened a Granby branch in June 2013.

“The Enfield area provides the additional growth opportunities we are looking for and fits with our planned expansion in the northern Connecticut market.” Westfield Bank President/CEO James C. Hagan said.

The bank recently moved its middle-market and commercial realty lending teams to Tower Square, in downtown Springfield.

“We feel a stronger commercial lending presence in Springfield and Enfield’s proximity to the I-91 corridor,’’ Hagan said in a statement.

With $1.3 billion in assets in 2013, Westfield has 12 branches in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut.
