Mass. solar installer targets CT

A Massachusetts solar developer-installer has hired a longtime Connecticut energy executive to help it gain traction into the Nutmeg State’s commercial solar market.

Solect Energy said Tuesday that it’s hired Kent McCord as business development director. McCord was most recently director of sales and marketing at South Windsor’s Doosan Fuel Cell (formerly ClearEdge Power and UTC Power). He had worked for the companies since 2001, departing in late September.

McCord will receive support from Solect’s Massachusetts headquarters, according to Solect, which has not announced plans to open an office here.

Founded in 2009, Solect had installed more than 31 megawatts of solar capacity through 2015, according to Solar Power World’s annual ranking, published in July.

Connecticut is Solect’s third market. It announced a push into Rhode Island earlier this year.

McCord has a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and serves on the board of the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Business Association, a Hartford-based trade group led by Murtha Cullina attorney Paul Michaud.
