Mass. company debuts new solar panels

Evergreen Solar, Inc. – headquartered in Marlboro, Mass. – will debut its highest efficiency solar panels on June 9 at Intersolar 2010 in Munich, Germany.

The new solar panels, with separate formats for residential and commercial projects, range in power grades from 195 to 230 watts. They feature new technology that uses micro wires instead of bus-bars to reduce shading on the cells, improve collection and increase overall panel efficiency.

The panels, which include an all-black version for when aesthetics are important, will debut on the market in the fourth quarter of this year.

The solar industry in Connecticut had suffered setbacks in recent years and hasn’t started a commercial project in the past year. Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s veto on May 24 of an energy bill that provided subsidies for the solar industry means a commercial project won’t start for at least another year, according to Michael Trahan, executive director of Solar Connecticut, Inc.
