Mass. ‘biopreneur’ Madaus joins Covidien board

Irish medical-devices maker Covidien PLC, with a surgical-tools plant in North Haven, named Massachusetts bio-entrepreneur Martin D. Madaus to a seat on its board, effective Dec 1.

Madaus, who will stand for election at Covidien’s 2012 annual meeting, has been appointed to serve on the board’s compliance committee.

Madaus is chairman and CEO of Quanterix Corp., a six-year-old Cambridge, Mass., bioscience firm developing technology for in vitro diagnostics and life science research markets.

He also president of Millipore Corp., also in Cambridge, its $7 billion merger with German pharmaceutical Merck in 2010.
