The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has appealed a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that it negotiate with the United Auto Workers, which represents Foxwoods Resort Casino dealers.
The board’s ruling said the Mashantucket Pequots must recognize the union as the lawful representatives of its dealers and assistant floor supervisors.
Washington lawyer Keith Harper, who represents the tribe, says the Mashantucket Pequot tribe is a sovereign nation, and that tribal laws already ensure that workers in the community can be represented.
Foxwoods dealer Steve Peloso says workers are disappointed but not surprised.
