Martha Stewart’s daughter sues CPA over tax bill

Martha Stewart’s daughter is suing her accountant over mistakes on her tax return that she says cost her hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Alexis Stewart says in a lawsuit filed Wednesday that she hired accountant Michael Mirras (MEER’-ras) to do her taxes for 2002, the year she sold her Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia stock.

The 43-year-old radio and TV host says Mirras miscalculated the amount she owed the Internal Revenue Service.

Stewart says an IRS examiner found she owed $737,000 in taxes and $143,000 in interest. She says almost $295,000 in penalties was reduced to $110,000 by negotiation. Her lawsuit asks for $334,000 from Mirras.
