Marino’s Career Thrives By Staying True to New England

Katie Marinan Marino knows down deep she is a New England person. She grew up in West Hartford, has a family here, and has spent her entire professional career in the Nutmeg state. That’s what led her to start a new career with Medical Research Consultants (MRC), a record retrieval and medical records analysis firm that opened a satellite office in downtown in late June.

Marinan came to the company from UHY Advisors Forensic, Litigation and Valuation Services. She is now heading up MRC’s Hartford office and covering all of New England as a national sales representative.

Founded in 1983, MRC offers a comprehensive support solution for legal, healthcare, and insurance professionals, including medical records analysis, record retrieval and management, lien research and resolution, coding audit and education, and call center services. The company, which is based in Houston, Texas, has never had a New England presence before.

At UHY Advisors, Marino was a business development manager until the company decided to move the forensic, litigation and valuation services practice out of Hartford. She faced the prospect of supporting the New York office, which took her away from her geographic area of expertise. “It’s more successful and profitable for me to be here in New England,” Marino said.

While it’s a new company and product she is selling, Marino is able to use her extensive network developed from her time at UHY, as well as the years she spent as continuing legal education director/bar services administrator for the Hartford County Bar Association. “It’s a whole new product for me, yet I’m servicing the firms I know so well,” Marino, 45, said. “It’s fun to learn a new product.”

She will also be busy reaching out to law firms and companies she has not dealt with in the past.

When not busy with her career, Marino finds time to raise two boys (“I’m a huge West Hartford Youth Football fan,” she said), support the local arts, and occasionally even play golf.

“When I got into sales three years ago, I realized how much can be accomplished golfing,” Marino said.
