The number of registered medical marijuana patients in Connecticut grew 9 percent over the past month, according to the Department of Consumer Protection.
Between July 29 and Aug. 27, an additional 443 patients qualified, bringing the total number statewide to 5,357, DCP said. The agency expects to have 6,000 patients by year’s end.
Hartford County has 1,277 patients, up from 1,054 a month ago.
Because of high patient volumes in Fairfield and New Haven counties, DCP is accepting applications through Sept. 18 for additional dispensary facilities.

There are currently 11 conditions and diseases that qualify a patient for medical marijuana, and a board of physicians in recent months has recommended adding another seven.
