Who is your most influential role model, and why?
My father was my most influential role model. He started his own business the year I turned one. He worked at least six days a week from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Growing up, we never ate dinner early as other families did but waited until my Dad came home. He developed a very successful business with his entrepreneurial spirit, his hard work, drive and personality. His message to his six children was to set your sights on a goal and then just work harder and longer than anyone else to get there.
Why are you good at what you do?
I am enthusiastic and passionate about my career, possess good communication skills, and am especially adept at listening to my clients. I am a creative problem solver, good at networking and enjoy all types of people.
On the purely practical side, I understand that advertising is crucial to promoting the sale of my client’s homes. I have a commitment to continuing education and willingness to try new ideas.
My father taught me that practicing persistence and integrity in everything you do applies equally to one’s business and personal life.
How does your organization give back to the community, and what role have you played in those efforts?
I am actively involved as an ambassador with the Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce (GCC), a sponsor of the GCC Riverfront Summer Music Series and the GCC annual meeting. I serve as a guest speaker in Glastonbury High School’s career day.
Additionally, I volunteer as a lector at St. Dunstan Church, am a board member of the Glastonbury Education Foundation, a member of the Glastonbury Rotary Club, and a business member of the Glastonbury Historical Society.
I am also a contributing member of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Cares Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company through which I donate a portion of my earnings. The foundation is a major contributor to My Sister’s Place in Hartford.
When the stress level gets too high, what’s your secret remedy?
In the midst of a busy work day, I manage stress by remaining calm and focused on client priorities.
At the end of the work day, dinner with my husband is always a calming influence. Reading fiction each night before retiring is a necessity. And when all else fails, trite but true, shopping does wonder.
How have you tried to balance your career and your personal life?
When you enjoy your career, it can be difficult to limit the time you spend working. However, I have surrounded myself with very talented people who are great resources for support and assistance. Having an administrative assistant who is a Realtor is critical. This allows for better time management while still upholding the highest standard of customer service.
I make every effort to be home for dinner each night so I can spend time with my spouse and family. Weekend evenings are also reserved for family, friends and socializing.
