Manufacturing industry boosting awareness in October

For the sixth consecutive year, Connecticut is celebrating October as manufacturing month, and coordinating activities with a nationwide campaign to draw more talent to the industry.

Licensed and led by East Hartford’s Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) and financed by the Department of Economic and Community Development’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund, the program, “Connecticut. Dream It. Do It,” is part of The Manufacturing Institute’s nationwide campaign to dispel misconceptions about manufacturing and attract the young people needed to grow the industry.

Manufacturing Mania activities will take place on National Manufacturing Day, Oct. 6, at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton. The Making It Real: Girls & Manufacturing Summit is set for Oct. 19 at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott Hotel in Windsor.

Since 2012, these types of events have introduced more than 2,000 middle and high school students and teachers to educational and career pathways in manufacturing, said Susan Palisano, CCAT’s director of education and workforce development.
