Mission: Founded in 1915, the Joyce D. and Andrew J. Mandell Greater Hartford Jewish Community Center provides programs that nurture the social, physical, intellectual and cultural lives of our members and the entire community. All of this is accomplished in an environment that is rooted in Jewish values along with a strong commitment to Israel. The JCC encourages the full participation of its members of all ages and stages, both individually and in groups. The agency also offers many choices for community involvement, voluntarism and social action.
Background: The Mandell JCC’s main complex is located on the Zachs Campus, Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, with satellite branches including its Swim and Tennis Club on Duncaster Road in Bloomfield, two Early Childhood Centers in Glastonbury and Simsbury and Camp Shalom on Merriman Road in Windsor. The Mandell JCC’s fitness, wellness and recreation facilities, Jewish arts and culture activities, summer camps, early childhood education programs, classes and services are open to everyone. The Mandell JCC is supported by funds raised by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, a recipient of funding from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford, a beneficiary agency of the United Way and a member of the JCC Association of North America.
Major Fundraisers: Annual Charity Golf Tournament, JCC Dine Around, The Big JCC Raffle
Volunteer Needs: Mandell JCC volunteers screen films, review books, cheer the swim team, usher arts events, hang gallery shows, host receptions, serve lunches to seniors, conduct food pantry drives, read books to pre-school students, plan programs for special needs adults and children, sell raffle tickets, staff family holiday events, raise scholarship funds, serve on dozens of active committees and more.
