Mandell-Braunstein family gifts $2.5M for new hospital unit at CT Children’s

Following a recent $2.5 million gift, Connecticut Children’s announced this week a new intensive care unit at the hospital will be named for the Mandell-Braunstein family.

The seventh floor of the hospital’s new $326-million clinical tower in Hartford, which is currently under construction, will be named the Mandell-Braunstein Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the hospital said.

The new unit will have 25 private NICU patient and family rooms, family waiting rooms, procedure rooms and team member areas.

In addition to the Mandell-Braunstein wing, there will be another NICU floor in the tower with similar features, bringing the total of private NICU rooms to 50.
The Mandell-Braunstein family has donated to Connecticut Children’s many times, including in 2018 to establish the Mandell-Braunstein Family Endowed Chair in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

That chair was created to support the hospital’s gastroenterology division in its research to find a cure for IBD, the hospital said.
