Dallas-based Anthony Properties has bought Manchester’s long-vacant Parkade site on Broad Street, paying $3.6 million for the roughly 23-acre parcel where it plans a mixed-use redevelopment with 232 apartment units.
The sale closed April 28, marking a major milestone for a property that has been targeted for redevelopment since 2008. Operating through APR Manchester LLC, Anthony Properties plans to invest about $80 million in the overall project, Manchester officials said.
The approved plan calls for 232 market-rate apartments along with resident amenities including a dog park, swimming pool, pickleball courts and community space. The project also includes roughly 13,000 square feet of commercial space along Broad Street.
The property was previously home to Bradlees, the discount department store chain, which opened its first store in New London in 1958 and took its name from Bradley International Airport.
The Braintree, Massachusetts-based retailer expanded to more than 100 stores across the Northeast at its peak but filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in late 2000 and liquidated by March 2001. The Manchester store has sat unused since.
Manchester settled litigation last year with a previous developer whose 2021 contract was terminated in 2022 over financing concerns. Anthony Properties first surfaced publicly as the prospective buyer in October 2025, bringing an application before the Planning and Zoning Commission. The commission had previously approved zoning amendments for the project, including changes to road configurations and building heights.
