Manchester dentist proposes two-building office development

A Manchester dentist is eyeing development of two office buildings on vacant North Main Street property in town.

Jatinder Sharma, owner of Signature Smiles Family Dentistry, recently filed plans with the town seeking approval to build a two-story, 10,000-square-foot general office building and adjacent one-story, 5,000-square-foot medical office building at 501 and 521 North Main St., town records show.

Sharma is requesting a special exception and an inland wetland permit, among other approvals, to move forward with the project. The town’s planning and zoning commission is scheduled to vote on his request for a special exception after a virtual public hearing Monday evening, according to the meeting agenda.

According to plans, the office development would include 72 parking spaces, a concrete sidewalk for pedestrians and a pair of two-way driveways. The 2.5-acre site is bordered by the Hockanum River to the north, an office building to the west and a vacant retail building.

It’s not yet clear whether Sharma plans to acquire the property, how much the development would cost, or if the site will become another Signature Smiles branch. He could not be reached for comment.

Sharma operates Signature Smiles locations in Manchester, Windsor and Hartford. According to the company’s website, Sharma is an immigrant from India who earned a dental degree from New York University in 2011.
