Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Tuesday that Karen Buffkin, his general counsel since 2014, is departing for a new job opportunity.
Malloy, who has about six months remaining in his second term and is not running for reelection, said he has named Doug Dalena, Buffkin’s deputy since 2015, as her successor, effective Aug. 3.
Malloy did not say where Buffkin is headed. She succeeded Luke Bronin after he departed Malloy’s administration to work as a private attorney and pursue a successful run for mayor of Hartford.
Dalena previously worked as an attorney for Brown Rudnick in Hartford and clerked for Connecticut Appellate Court Judge William J. Lavery.
Prior to getting his law degree in 2012, he served as a naval officer for more than eight years, and still holds the title of commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
Dalena also previously worked as a journalist for the Stamford Advocate and Republican-American, according to his LinkedIn profile.
