Luke Bronin, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s general counsel, will depart his position next month, Malloy’s office announced.
The move is sure to stoke further speculation about his aspirations to run for mayor of Hartford.
Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra has not yet said if he will run for re-election in Nov. 2015 for his second full term.
Malloy appointed Bronin — a Rhodes Scholar and Yale Law graduate — in early 2013.
In a statement Tuesday, he credited Bronin for his role in helping to create state policies on the environment, veteran homelessness, criminal justice and the economy, as well as helping identify judicial appointees.
Malloy, who will be sworn into his second term as governor on Jan. 7, said he will choose a replacement for Bronin in the coming weeks.
