Malloy to wrap up town hall meetings

With a scheduled Middletown stop Tuesday night, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is wrapping up his series of town hall meetings to discuss Connecticut’s budget woes with constituents, The Associated Press reports.

Malloy is holding his 17th and final meeting from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Middletown High School auditorium.

Residents have packed most of the meetings, eager to talk to the governor about his proposed two-year, $40 billion state budget and his plans for closing a $3.5 billion deficit in the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Many have also voiced concerns about the $1.5 billion in tax increases Malloy has proposed in the first year of the budget.

Interest in Malloy’s tour has been so great that many of the events were moved to larger venues.
