Malloy to wave CT’s bioscience flag in Davos

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy is headed to Davos, Switzerland, next week to rub elbows with some of the world’s top business and economic leaders while promoting the state as fertile soil for bioscience.

Malloy said Thursday he has accepted an invite to participate in the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting there Jan. 25-29, to be attended by more than 1,600 business and economic leaders and policymakers.

According to his office, his estimated $4,500 trip is being funded by the University of Connecticut Foundation.

“Throughout my first year in office, I’ve taken every opportunity to send the message that Connecticut is open for business,” Malloy said in a statement.  “I can’t imagine a better opportunity to share that sentiment with leaders from around the world than at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum.”

While there, Malloy is scheduled to host a private industry meeting of various manufacturing and supply chain industries and top policy-makers to discuss implications for business and government and propose future directions for how manufacturing can drive economic growth.

His itinerary also includes one-to-one meetings with business leaders to promote Connecticut, his office said.

This would be Malloy’s second overseas trip in as many months. Before Thanksgiving, the governor made an unannounced visit to Connecticut troops stationed in Afghanistan and Kuwait.
