Malloy taps union leader Palmer as labor chief

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has named Sharon Palmer to serve as the permanent commissioner of the state Department of Labor.

Palmer, who is currently the president of AFT Connecticut, a leading Connecticut teachers union, replaces Glenn Marshall who abruptly resigned in July.

Palmer has more than two decades of labor relations experience as well as 20 years of classroom experience as a public school teacher, primarily in the Waterford Public School System.

Palmer has also served on the Waterford Representative Town Meeting for the past 19 years.
